Poetry Reading
This event is part of Wordplay for Winter
Ticketed - booking required.
Bristol-based midwife and poet Helen Sheppard writes about marginal life cycles and the landscapes of body and mind. Shaped by her work at the bedside and by an endlessly curious eye, her poems are vivid, tender and unflinching.
Join her for a reading from Fontanelle (Burning Eye Books) and a first taste of her keenly awaited new collection, ahead of its publication.
Helen’s poems have appeared widely, including in the Hecate Press Birth Anthology, Ink Sweat & Tears, These Are the Hands, Under the Radar and Tools of the Trade: Poems for New Doctors. She was Poet in Residence at the Matrescence Festival 2024 and is the voice behind the Health Beat Poets podcast, available on Spotify. She also co-runs Our Place Poetry, a monthly open mic for nervous and neuro-complex poets.
