Masterworks: Concertos from the Baroque Period

Helston Old Chapel

7.30pm 16th August 2024

by Kernow Chamber Players presented by Trevow Helston

Kernow Chamber Players are back in Helston following their much-loved adaptation of A Christmas Carol last year!

This time with a classical concert featuring the music of Vivaldi, Handel, Telemann & Corelli.

This programme features music by the innovative inventors of our modern classical music formats.  Using small orchestra sizes, and by our modern standards, very restricted composing techniques, they made music which has never been surpassed in beauty, excitement, and energy.

Not surprisingly, audiences fell in love with the later music of Haydn and Mozart, and baroque music was forgotten all through the 18th and 19th centuries.

Just 100 years ago, Vivaldi was re-discovered and soared immediately in popularity, creating an entire classical music movement of "period" performance, as scholars and performers tried to re-create the magical setting that allowed this music to be invented.

The programme for the night will be:

Corelli Concerto Grosso No. 8
Telemann Viola Concerto in G Major
Handel Violin Concerto in B flat
Vivaldi Cello Concerto in C minor

KCP 2.webp

Kernow Chamber Players will present some of the brightest young music talents of Cornwall playing individual concertos to demonstrate the centuries-old-but-still-new magic of baroque music.
